Vehicular Work Needs Different Rules
Driveways fail at the edges and at the base, not in the middle of the field. Belgian block or granite sett borders set in concrete take the load where the pavement is weakest, and a properly built base stops the ruts that show up in year three.
Field options: hard-fired antique brick for a traditional motor court, granite setts for maximum durability, or a brick field with a stone border and apron-the classic Southern combination.

Hardest stock only
Vehicular work gets the hardest-fired paving brick and the granite setts. Soft facade brick under a car is a repair waiting to happen.
Stone borders and aprons
Belgian block and granite setts for the apron, the border, and the gutter — taking the load at the pavement’s weakest point, the edge.
Base and haunch guidance
Vehicular work wants a concrete bed and haunch rather than a sand set. We will tell you what the material needs; your contractor sizes it for your soil.
Truckload volumes
Driveways and motor courts are volume orders, and they are normal order sizes here rather than special requests.

Questions we get asked
Will a brick driveway hold up to cars?
Yes, with paving-grade brick, a proper concrete bed and haunch, and a real edge restraint. The brick is rarely what fails on a driveway — the base is. Get the base right and it will outlast the house, and it stays repairable one unit at a time.
Brick or cobbles for a motor court?
Granite setts and Belgian block are tougher and were cut to survive iron-shod wheels, but they are a rougher ride and a bigger install cost. Most projects we supply use setts for the apron, borders, and turning areas and brick for the field — you get the durability where the loads are and the smoother surface everywhere else.
What about tree roots and settlement?
This is the real enemy of any paved driveway, and it is a design problem rather than a material one. Plan for root zones, get the drainage and the base right, and use generous edge restraint. The consolation with brick and setts is that settlement is fixable — you lift the affected area, correct the base, and relay the same material, which you simply cannot do with poured concrete.
